I am no fashion expert. and the only experience that I have in the subject area is that I get up and get dressed each morning. But I'm going to share my favorite style advice with you anyway, and hopefully, you will take something away from it. And the next time you're out trying on clothes, or in your closet with your underwear on your head and your socks on your hands screaming "I have nothing to wear!!!", you will remember Amy and her good ole' fashion tips.
Tip #5: Mix colors, textures, and patterns.
I love to mix and match pieces that honestly just don't go together. I layer a lot (tanks, tees, cardigans) so by mixing at matching different eclectic pieces, I keep it spicy, colorful, and not boring (throw out your twin sets immediately.)
Tip #4: Dress for the Season.
You already know not to wear pea coats in the summer and flip flops in the winter... right? I'm referring to materials, patterns, and colors. The other day, I was out shopping and I saw two very similar cardigans. They were both mustard colored and fitted, and one had rhinestone buttons and flowers (score!) I thought to myself, this will be perfect for Spring Break! The plain cardigan cost $40 and the one with the flowers was on sale for $15 (double score!) But why? Yes, you guessed it. The $15 cardigan was wool and acrylic (winter), and the $40 cardigan was 100% cotton (summer). I bought the $15 one, because I really liked it. :)
Tip #3: Pay Attention to Details.
I love small details on clothes, like the above mentioned rhinestone buttons and flowers. The best part about details such as these is that you barely need to add anything to the outfit to make it complete. This cardigan will be perfect (in the winter) with just some jeans and boots.
Tip #2: Wear What You Want.
With stipulations. For example, you probably should stop wearing those booty shorts with "Juicy" across the ass. To work. And as much as you want to, don't wear a white dress to your ex boyfriend's wedding. But if you want to wear a fancy dress to your office job, I think you should. Or pajamas to school? I think that's okay too.
and finally...
Tip #1: Wear. What . Fits.
This is my mama's advice, and it holds true with each and every outfit. Who cares what size it is? You know if it looks good or... not. So stop buying a size 6 when you know you need an 8 (me). I went pant shopping the other day, and purchase two of the exact same pants- one in black, one in denim. I am a true 8, so I tried both pants on, size 8. Thank goodness, because one of the pants were too small. I left the store with two of the same pant- one was a size 8 and one was a size 10. And they both look great. And no one knows! Except for all of you, of course.
PS: Yesterday was my 400th post (at this blog. I had a blog before this one for a few years in college.) GO me!
